Day trip: Toledo

Trip number two! Just a day trip this time with my roommate Aline. We were blessed with flawless weather and drama-free commutes.

Destination: Toledo, España
When: Sun 8th March
Where: A small city located 70km south of Madrid  which only took 1 hr by bus
Why: Why not? It’s so close! Just like Granada, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historial co-existence of Jewish, Muslim and Christian cultures (aka City of the Three Cultures) – which can be seen as soon as you enter the impressive city walls.
Highlights: the ease of wandering around the quaint little city and the picturesque views that encircled it

One day is definitely enough time to see the entire city. Albeit, we didn’t go inside major buildings (cause we’re poor university students who refuse to pay) which would have eaten up a bit more time, but we did see everything that we wanted to see and we were able to walk the whole city – even the little by-streets.. where we may or may not have gotten lost.

There was an authenticity about Toledo that could be felt as soon as you arrived. The air was crisp and the sun was pleasant – this day was meant to happen. Aline and I roamed through tiny lanes where cars just fit and beautiful flowers hung in terracotta pots along balconies, with only a vague idea of what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go. And just quietly, we didn’t want to pay 2,5€ for a map *pls refer to preceding bracket*. We ended up avoiding the crowds of tourists that are renowned for swarming the city everyday, explored and took in the sun. For almuerzo, we took advantage of the warmth by eating at a small restaurant with alfresco dining and savoured a glass vino blanco. The cherry on top of was quietly laughing at and feeling sorry for our waiter who was evidently new to the job and was clearly having a hard time keeping up with the continuous flow of hungry customers. Shame.

Overall, the day away was a delightfully refreshing change from the hustle-and-bustle of Madrid and reminded me of why I’m falling in love with this country.

Til my next post,
Besos para ti xx
