Europe, prepare yourself. We’re coming.

Trips are being planned, lists are being made and tour deposits are being paid.

Instead of studying for our final exams, at about 10:25pm the other night, Bec and I ended up on Skype, sitting in front of our world maps in our bedrooms – hers a fabric map that I’m secretly jelly about – and started planning our year away. We were obviously keen beans and clearly, this was a ‘productive’ way of avoiding memorising el rol de la mujer en américa latina and figuring out what the heck imperfecto de subjuntivo y condicional were used for. It wasn’t long before country after country was being named “OMG I don’t care what happens but we HAVE to go to (insert every country in Europe here)“ and hypothetical dates were being thrown around; and before we knew it, thirty countries in total ended up on our list. Michaela would be informed of these plans the next day (she’s not much for planning, so has happily left all things ‘planning and organising’ to us).

This night also saw the birth of a Facebook group dedicated to our plans and a legitimate document being typed up. Obviously, this was my doing, but we’ve already established that I’m an over-planner so leave me be. The point I’m making is that we intend on making the absolute most out of this opportunity that none of us thought would even be a possibility. I think I’m also coming to terms with the fact that I WILL be broke when I return, but that is OK (I say this now). As long as I get to do everything I want to do, and see all the places I want to see, I’ll be happy …and if I don’t, well, at least I know I would’ve tried my very best to do so (it also gives me more reason to go back sooner right?). I’ve put in the work these past couple of years and I very much intend on rewarding my efforts and taking advantage of every opportunity that arises. That’s not selfish right?

So many things to discover, so many places to explore, and so many lessons to be learnt – I can’t wait.
